What is your name, IG, birthplace, and current home?
Hey guys! My name is Daniel Krakan, I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. However, I am currently living just north of the city with my family. You can find me on Instagram as @danielkrakan to see my work.
What gear do you currently use and why?
I am currently shooting with a Nikon D5100, which is a crop sensor camera. It is by no means my dream camera; however, it has served me well since I have gotten into photography. My go to lens for shooting street is my 18-70mm lens. For portraits, I typically use my 50mm f1.8 lens, which is quite a sharp lens and I have been very pleased with it. In the near future, I plan on upgrading to a Nikon D750, which is a full-frame camera, and in my opinion, one of the best DSLR cameras Nikon offers. I also want to stress the fact that I think gear is not as important as having a ‘good eye’ when you’re out shooting. Of course, it is nice to have the latest camera gear because it can potentially improve your results, though it is not necessary to be a “good” photographer.
If you could only use one lens for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
If I could use only one lens for the rest of my life it would probably be a 24mm f1.4 wide angle lens simply because I would be able to shoot both cityscapes and landscapes with it, and if I wanted to shoot portraits, I could do that as well.
Are there any editing/shooting tips you would give to our community?
My biggest tip I could offer to you guys in terms of shooting/editing is to be consistent with it and not give up on your craft. It takes many years to become a true professional. It is always important to remember that shooting in the best light makes a massive difference, and will always make for better photos. In terms of editing, I would suggest watching YouTube tutorials. They have always helped me when I ran into obstacles, and I’m sure they will help you as well.
What Are Your Biggest Inspirations? (Could be IG, Person, Painting, Food, WHATEVER)
My biggest inspirations are 3 photographers whose Instagrams are: @mindz.eye, @jordhammond, and @bora.vs.bora. They are all professionals at their craft and I would highly recommend checking them out. The movie “Inception” has also inspired me greatly in many ways.
Do you have any tips to help our audience grow their Instagrams?
If you are looking to grow your Instagram, the one thing I can tell you is that it will take time. Pumping out content every day will definitely speed up the process, however, I would suggest not getting caught up with likes and followers because over time it can really affect a person's overall mindset. Just keep creating and doing what you love, and the rest will just happen naturally.
How do you make money with photography?
At the moment, I am not making any serious money with photography, and am currently using Instagram mainly as a platform to showcase my work. In the future, I plan on creating a website and selling prints of my work.
What is your dream photo job?
My dream photography job would be to get hired by some massive company and travel around the world taking photos at every stop I make. Through this, I would be making some solid money and at the same time doing what I love. Creating.
